Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple’s official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia and Icy. It’s estimated that 4 million (out of 40 million) iPods and iPhones are jailbroken. [1]
Jailbreaking is distinct from unlocking, which is the process by which a mobile device is made compatible with telephone networks it was not specifically licensed to be used with.
Here is step by step how to jailbreak iPhone with 3.0 Firmware using RednSn0w in Windows.
Step one
Make sure your iPhone’s firmware has been updated to 3.0 firmware.
Step two
Download RedSn0w
Step three
Open RedSn0w
Step four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button
Step Five
Select the firmware ipsw that you just download in step two then click Open
Step Six
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.
Step Seven
Make sure Cydia is selected and click the Next button.
Step Eight
Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button
Step Nine
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.
Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.
Step Ten
Your iPhone will now reboot
Step Eleven
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk.
Step Twelve
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button.
When your iPhone finishes reboot (5 minutes or so). It will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

I can't get past the step four. What am I doing wrong? downloaded the program and then when I hit run it asks to browse but when I got to where the file is it won't open through. Stuck..help please. thanks

I updated my iPhone to the latest firmware. It is 3.1(iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw). Now redsn0w 0.8 while processing firmware gives error "Unable to recognize the specified IPSW"

3.1 firmware can be jailbraken on Mac, not available for windows yet.
If you're using Mac, you can jailbreak it using PwnageTool.

Even if you downgrade to 3.0 firmware, the baseband version will not changed. You need to wait dev-team to release new tool, or find a macintosh to jailbreak your iPhone.
I did all the steps and they were all successful yet It says downloading jailbreak data but the home screen is still locked. I can't make any calls or use it. I'm feeling a bit hopeless. How can I fix this?

I updated the 3G 8Gb with the latest version on the 15th of March 2010. i restored my iphone and updated it. than it says no sim and unlock. I downloaded the firmware "2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw" and followd the steps in REdsnow but it tells me :"unabole to recognize specified IPSW. what to do?

Hi, your firmware must be 3.1.3 since you just updated it two days ago.
Go to settings – general – about, there you will see the firmware version.

I cannot jailbreak with redsnow. I am using itunes 3.1.3 version. what do i do

Hi, it’s my first time to have an iPhone so I’m quite new at this. It’s an iPhone 2 and I just installed iTunes awhile ago and saw that there was an upgrade available for my version of iPhone 2 to iPhone 3. The download/upgrade took almost an hour and I really took the liberty of waiting because I was really excited to try the new version! :( But now I’m having a BIG problem with my iPhone! I just upgraded its software to 3 something and now it says “The sim card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported”. When I tried to use my phone, I can only see the iTunes logo and the usb cable picture thingy on the screen! I tried following your tutorial and downloaded the redsnow application but when it asked for the ipsw file, I couldn’t find any. I don’t even know what the hell an ipsw file is so I really don’t know how or where to find it or if even HAVE one in the first place… Oh, what am I gonna do now? Help me please. :(
