Were you trying to share internet connection by using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on Windows and getting this error message?
Cannot enable shared access.
Error 0×80004005: Unspecified error
I had this problem on my BenQ Joybook with Windows 7 installed. I’m using mobile broadband connection and share it by using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on Win7. Everything was working fine, until my iPhone 4 was SUDDENLY unable to connect to the Internet.
I tried to disconnect the Wireless network, Internet, restart my Windows, and finally I cannot enable Internet Connection Sharing. It always says Error 0×80004005: Unspecified error.
It seemed that I have problem with ICS service. I also tried to enable ICS on the Wireless network, but another error came up.

An error occurred while Internet connection Sharing was being enabled.

After 12 hours struggling with this annoying problem, I found a simple solution to fix “Error 0×80004005″ when enabling Internet Connection Sharing on Windows.
Click Start, Run, type “services.msc” (without quote)
Find Windows Firewall, right click on it, click Start.
Or simply click Start on the top left corner.

Well, it worked for me.

This solution worked for me thanks a million for saving me the same 12 hours of frustration you went through!
Dude, I can't thank you enough. This solved my problem. It would have taken me a million years to solve it on my own. Thank You! Thanks a lot. I'm enjoying my iPhone again.
Omg… dunno why, but it worked as charm! (win7 64bit,custom firewall)
tryed it all but nothing until this :) ty friend
I did that, but discovered windows firewall was already enabled. I tried disabling it but got the same error, and after enabling it again it STILL came up with the same error…
There might be a few settings were changed by me, but I didn't notice it. Tried to disable/enable the Wi-fi connection? Or restart after enabling/disabling WF?
Indeed, works flawlessly using your solution! Many thanks from me, too!
well i did type the services.msc but i couldnt find any term "windows firewall".
What's your Windows version? User-access' rights? If you have administrator, try to contact your Administrator. It might be managed under group-policy.
Hi, i do have a similar problem, but as from one of the previous posts i do have the Firewall enabled already. Funny enough, i cn't find the service at all in my services list when checking for it ?
My company installed a VPN client from CISCO on my Laptop, since then it will take forever for it to start up (Windows 7 Pro 32 Bit). I found out that the CISCO client will not work correctly if shared internet access is enabled on any of my adapters, and the ICS service is completely gone from my list of services.
Any idea whats going on here ?
IT FUCKING WORKED?!?!?
Do you want to make love to me??
