First way

1. Run iTunes 8.2 then connect your iPhone 3G to your computer using iPhone’s USB Cable.
2. In Device lists, select your iPhone
3. Click “Check for Update” button in Summary pane
4. Click “Download and Install“. Do not disconnect your iPhone until the update has finished.
If iTunes automatically detect new update for your iPhone, you don’t need to do those steps.
Second way
If you have slow Internet connection or you need to install the firmware offline, you can following these steps below:
1. Download iPhone 3.0 Firmware (click to download) Direct Firmware Link – Download Manager supported.
2. Run iTunes 8.2 then connect your iPhone 3G to your computer using iPhone’s USB Cable.
3. In Device lists, select your iPhone.
4. Click “Restore” button.
5. Select the iPhone 3.0 Firmware you have downloaded in step 1. Rename the file name from iPhone1_2_3.0_7A341_Restore.zip to iPhone1_2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw (if needed).
6. Do not disconnect your iPhone until the update has finished.

September 26th, 2009 at 8:07 PMRestore your iPhone in DFU mode, then use redsn0w to jailbreak your iPhone.
To downgrade iTunes, you need to uninstall it completely also in registry entries. -

August 16th, 2010 at 1:08 PMhi!
I bought an Iphone 4 from America (using eBay).
I live in Romania and I want
this phone to work with Vodafone.
I bought a micro sim card and
they said all will be fine and it will work.
I connected the phone to Itunes and
I get this error message :
”Ony compatible sim card from a
supported carrier….BLAH BLAH BLAH…
what should I do? -
15. Ryan Isra Says:
August 16th, 2010 at 1:17 PMBianca, you will need at&t micro sim card to activate it. They told you that you can use any micro sim card, in case you have an unlocked iPhone.
Read this: Activate iPhone 4 without AT&T SIM card -

August 16th, 2010 at 1:52 PMthe seller said it is unlocked.
and when I turn the phone on
,it says ”No Service” in the left corner. -

August 16th, 2010 at 2:05 PMryan, I want to open my phone.
how I said, it is an Iphone 4.
let’s say it is unlocked…
I can’t update it with Itunes 8.2.
I can’t update it with Itunes 9.2 because I get a network error message.
What should I do?
in Romania we don’t have phonebook micro sims…
what if I jailbreak it directly with redsn0w? -
19. bianca Says:
August 16th, 2010 at 2:16 PMyes, it is.
no, I don’t.
I just got the phone. -
20. Ryan Isra Says:
August 16th, 2010 at 2:47 PMSo, there was misunderstanding between you and seller.
He might claimed it as unlockable, but not yet unlocked, because your iPhone still stuck at Emergency call screen. No, you can’t do anything with it unless you activate it using AT&T micro sim card, or phonebook card.
You can jailbreak directly with redsn0w as long as it supports iPhone 4, but unfortunately, redsn0w doesn’t jailbreak iPhone 4/ iOS4. -
21. bianca Says:
August 16th, 2010 at 3:17 PMdo you know a way to open it?
I want to use my vodafone micro sim card, not an at&t or phonebook sim card. -
22. Ryan Isra Says:
August 16th, 2010 at 3:22 PMEither phonebook card or at&t micro sim card is used only to activate your iPhone4. There is no way to activate it, unless new jailbreak tool released (with hacktivation support).
Once you’ve activated it, you can jailbreak iPhone4 using jailbreakme and unlock it to use any micro-sim card (include vodafone). -
