1. Run iTunes 8.2 then connect your iPhone 3G to your computer using iPhone’s USB Cable.

Thank you for your useful article, but when I tried to restore the iPhone firmware by the second way using iTunes v9.0 I faced an error message says:

“The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1015)”.

I uninstalled iTunes 9.0, installed iTunes 8.2 and restored the firmware with the second way again and I faced the same error.

    I use:
    Windows Vista 32 bit
iPhone 3G 8 GB came from Canada and I used it in other country.

    Thank you for your help…

Restore your iPhone in DFU mode, then use redsn0w to jailbreak your iPhone.
To downgrade iTunes, you need to uninstall it completely also in registry entries.
