Were you trying to share internet connection by using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on Windows and getting this error message?

Cannot enable shared access.
Error 0×80004005: Unspecified error

I had this problem on my BenQ Joybook with Windows 7 installed. I’m using mobile broadband connection and share it by using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on Win7. Everything was working fine, until my iPhone 4 was SUDDENLY unable to connect to the Internet.
I tried to disconnect the Wireless network, Internet, restart my Windows, and finally I cannot enable Internet Connection Sharing. It always says Error 0×80004005: Unspecified error.
It seemed that I have problem with ICS service. I also tried to enable ICS on the Wireless network, but another error came up.

An error occurred while Internet connection Sharing was being enabled.
(null)

After 12 hours struggling with this annoying error, I found a simple solution to fix “Error 0×80004005″ when enabling Internet Connection Sharing on Windows.

Click Start, Run, type “services.msc” (without quote)
Find Windows Firewall, and start it.

Well, it worked for me.

Open up Kaspersky, go to Settings, Web Anti-Virus.

Click on Settings, then uncheck “Block dangerous scripts in Microsoft Internet Explorer” option.

Some people don’t have any of Kaspersky products installed, but similar still having such problem. You may try to disable your security-suite product (such as Norton).
